Grant Seeking 101

You've heard foundation grants should make up 10-20% of your annual budget. Grant Seeking 101 will help you reach that goal!

During this self-paced training, you will learn: how to approach foundations, create long-lasting relationships with them, all the elements that make a grantable request, get to know other staff in your situation, and so much more.

Upon completion, you will have everything you need to submit a viable grant request, peers to help you along the way, and a coach at the Foundations Engagement office to continue helping you with future requests.

"The Foundation Engagement team is essential to our mission! Their dedication to helping kids know Jesus and supporting our staff is remarkable. They assist with grant applications and provide a comprehensive strategy for foundation engagement, saving you hours of research. They organize data into an easy-to-understand format and guide you on effective communication with foundations, even after a grant denial. Working with them has boosted my confidence in engaging foundations. Initially intimidated by grant writing, I've seen it as a key element for long-term development, thanks to their support and coaching!"

"As the Senior Campaign Director for the Southwest Division, I am tasked with finding the right partners, foundations, and companies to help us fund the Woodleaf Campaign and other ministry efforts throughout the Southwest. Having the FE team's support in these efforts has been invaluable, and even though it takes a lot of swings, we’ve gotten quite a few base hits and have knocked one or two out of the park! Our bi-weekly calls have become a powerful tool and keep me accountable. I would encourage anyone working to develop a solid foundations effort to set up a similar call schedule."

"Thanks to Young Life's Foundation Engagement Team, Big Bend Young Life has significantly expanded along the Texas-Mexico border. In 2021, my Grant Coordinator and I sought to fund a region with great ministry potential but low income, starting with a small team that reached 150 kids in a rural town four hours from the nearest YL area. Thanks to the FE team, our area has grown to two full-time and seven part-time staff, plus two interns, now reaching 925 kids across 15,000 square miles. We've also launched the Frontera Initiative, a leadership training pathway, and provided $50,000 in annual camp scholarships. This growth is thanks to the support of the Foundation Engagement Team, which has been instrumental in our mission to transform lives and strengthen our community."
